Update on the puppies found dumped in a bag

1st Jan 2019
Not a good start to the year… Following on from yesterday’s news item on the seven puppies found in a bag — unfortunately one puppy passed away last night (31st) and the remaining one died early this morning. They were very weak when they came in to us —  God only know how long they were […]

Kitten rejected on Christmas day

27th Dec 2018
Unfortunately, one of our volunteers ended up having to collect this kitten on Christmas night, an unwanted Christmas present. Seriously what do some humans have as brains? Why would you go out and get an animal who needs love and care for someone without checking with them first?

Happy Christmas from the Laois SPCA

20th Dec 2018
THE LAOIS SPCA would like to thank all our supporters for the help they have given us during the year. Some give money anonymously so we cannot thank them individually, some pay money monthly via standing orders or PayPal, others donate food- whatever way you help we would like you to know it is so […]

Trip to Portlaoise college

6th Dec 2018
Jesse and our volunteer spent a lovely afternoon on Monday, with the 3rd year students of Portlaoise College and their teacher Ms Scully. What amazing students, they are really concerned for the welfare of animals. A big THANK YOU for the fabulous hamper, our puppies are having a great time playing with all the toys. […]

Portlaoise GAA gone to the Dogs

5th Nov 2018
We learned today that, unfortunately, the Portlaoise GAA are planning to have a fundraiser at the greyhound track in Newbridge next week. We believe this is a very poor choice of venue and would ask that the Portlaoise GAA reconsider this form of fundraising. We would encourage everyone at the club to take the time […]

Puppies are not Christmas presents!

3rd Nov 2018
The calls have started already. People have been calling us trying to book a kitten or puppy for Christmas. “Oh, can I pick it up on Christmas Eve?” No, our volunteers work hard enough during the year and deserve to have Christmas Eve to themselves to enjoy with their own animals and animals they are […]

Uncared for Kitten found in car park

20th Sep 2018
This poor little 4 week old was found this morning in Laois County Hall carpark by a nice lady called Sandra who contacted us. She was freezing cold, terrified and with a very sore leg. Another good reason to neuter your cats. Obviously unwanted and uncared for 😞

Crow

Injured Crow

18th May 2018
We got a message yesterday afternoon from a very concerned gentleman. He had seen a baby crow sitting in the Bridge Centre car park and it wasn’t moving. He was concerned that it would get injured from either a car or animal. Our volunteers went out immediately and found the poor thing just sitting there. […]

Update on Rosie

26th Apr 2018
As some of you may remember, Rosie came into our care with a broken leg that had already healed and left her in a lot of pain. Rosie had a plate and pins inserted to reline her broken bones and straighten her deformed leg. Everything seemed to be going well for the first couple of […]

Cat neutering scheme (Mar ‘18)

16th Mar 2018
Because a few were disappointed at missing our last reduced price cat neutering scheme at the beginning of February, we have decided to run another starting 20th March. Mating season is underway, so unless you want litters of kittens that we can’t or won’t take away, then the sensible thing is take advantage of this […]

Rosie

15th Feb 2018
Meet the gorgeous Rosie, who came into our care on Sunday after being found abandoned in a wooded area. Rosie has an old break to her leg that has fused and she cannot put weight on the leg. She is very undernourished and will need feeding up and cage rest for a couple of weeks, […]
